Darian Macey

This week is about recognising that where you build matters just as much as what you build. We’re looking at how Defence projects are shaped by geography, climate, heritage, contamination, and environmental sensitivity—and how planning for these risks early can save major time, cost, and rework.

Share your experiences. You might consider:
– Have you worked on a Defence project in a remote or extreme environment? What logistical or climate challenges caught you by surprise?
– How do you assess environmental risks like contamination, UXO, or heritage early in a project?
– What’s been your approach to stakeholder engagement when environmental concerns arise?
– Have you had to manage unknown site conditions due to missing or inaccurate documentation?
– How have you used environmental consultants or early site investigations to de-risk projects?
– Have you seen FeeMaster™ or a similar tool help quantify location and environmental risks during planning?

Reply to others, share real-world examples (feel free to redact sensitive details), and let us know what early planning techniques have helped you stay ahead of geographic and environmental risks.
